Bermuda School Of Russian Ballet

The Bermuda School of Russian Ballet was founded by Madame Patricia Deane-Gray in the early 1950’s.As a Bermudian Madame Gray received her early training on the Island and then went to the Legat School in England where she met Madame Ana Roje. This started a long relationship with the two women which resulted in the formation of the school here in Bermuda. Both Coral Waddell and Katina Woodley are among many that were fortunate to grow up through the school before attending further dance training abroad. The school has been known for producing some of the best classical dancers on the Island.

Mrs. Waddell

Attended the Canadian College of Dance at Ryerson and received her Dance Teachers diploma (with Honours) and also received certification from the Royal Academy of Dance in Ballet and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Modern and National dance. Mrs. Waddell spent a further three years in Boston studying under Madame Ana Roje in the system that we teach in the school and received her teaching certification from the American Society of Russian Ballet while dancing with Copley Square Ballet. Mrs. Waddell has been Director of the Bermuda Civic Ballet for the last ten years and has performed and choreographed for Civic since its inception in 1972. She is also currently on the Board of The American Society of Russian Ballet and a member of the International Dance Council.

Mrs. Woodley

Received further training in England at Bush Davies Ballet School in Essex and received certification from the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in National and Ballet. Mrs. Woodley also has her teaching certification from the American Society of Russian Ballet. For a number of years it was a pleasure to see Mrs. Woodley dancing with the Bermuda Civic Ballet. She is currently on the Board of the American Society of Russian Ballet
